The Covenant Journal: A Commentary on the Church

The Mail

Dorothy Ann Russo, Clarksville, TN   I am so thankful for Covenant! Having the opportunity to read the words and thoughts of good open minds, well trained to speak, and use language, is very important to me. Thank you again. (Gift enclosed.)

Carroll Young, Nashville, TN   Thank you for providing one of the only publications I know of that gives real insight into spiritual matters. (Check enclosed.)

P D Quirk, Figment, TN  Nobody ever asked me before to write a letter to the editor just so the column wouldn't look so skimpy. But here goes, anyway. Who do you think you are sounding off on holy matters as if you knew what you were talking about? I hope you don't fall for all that praise you keep on getting. (Note: No check enclosed.)

Julian of Norwich, outside the walls  Sin is necessary. All will be well, and every kind of thing will be well.

Albert Camus, France  The world needs real dialogue. Falsehood is just as much the opposite of dialogue as is silence. The only possible dialogue is the kind between people who remain what they are and speak their minds. The other day at the Sorbonne, speaking to a Marxist lecturer, a Roman Catholic priest said in public that he too was anticlerical. Well, I don't like priests who are anticlerical anymore than philosophies that are ashamed of themselves. Hence I shall not... try to pass myself off as a Christian... I share the same revulsion from evil. But I do not share the Christian's hope, and I continue to struggle against this universe in which children suffer and die.
