The Covenant Journal: A Commentary on the Church

The Mail

Bishop Frank Vest, Forest, VA Thanks for the excellent job you are doing. In Christ. (ck enc)

Barbara Werner, Springfield, TN This (COV22) is a great issue. Do, please, keep up the good work. And put my son on the mailing list. (Ck enc)

Richard Kirker, London, UK Thank you for the generous review (in COV22) of the book "Gays and the Future of Anglicanism."

Betty Grimes, Nashville, TN We have borrowed Covenant issues for too long. Please put us on your mailing list. Postage is woefully too expensive, so have enclosed a check to help cover it.

Carolyn Crombie, Cowan, TN Thank you for keeping me informed. I always appreciate all of your perspective. (ck enc)

The Revd Ramona Rose-Crossley, Sewanee, TN
Please accept (me and my husband Remington who is also a priest) as subscribers to "Covenant." The news is awfully depressing about our church, almost as depressing as is the news about our nation and the world, but one does prefer to learn the truth about what is going on and to be given some theologically well-rooted points of view about it all. Thank you for your work. (Ck enc)

Dr Louie Crew, Newark, NJ
No Christians heard of the Nicean Creed until near the end of the fourth Century. Would heaven be heaven if they are excluded for being theologically incorrect or ignorant? I can pass the Nicean Creed with a lie detector test, but am delighted that I am a member of a church that doesn't install them, yet. I know many who struggle with the creed who live far more faithfully than I do. May God be merciful to me.

The Revd Dr Marion Hatchett, Sewanee, TN I was so glad to see the paragraph (in COV22) beginning, "Another pet peeve is the practice of invoking the Trinity before preaching... It is pretentious to a fault... Even so, it just might be an imposition on Herself... The sense of the Eucharistic liturgy implies the preachment is of a part with the preceding gospel... "

On the Drafting Committee for the eucharistic rite we worked as hard as we could to eliminate any text sung or said between "Praise to you, Lord Christ" (the congregation's cue to sit down) and the first sentence of the sermon.

I hope that all the clergy who see Covenant will take your paragraph to heart. (Ed note: Dr Hatchett's formative "Commentary on the American Prayer Book," Seabury, 1980, 670 pp, contains a wealth of information that could obviously be put to some good use.)

Ed Camp, Sewanee, TN Splendid issue! A real knockout. Thanks for your persistence, dedication, and concern. (Ck enc)

Carroll Young, Nashville, TN I've been hearing people talking about the new issue of the Covenant. It sounds interesting. Where can I pick up a copy? (Ed: It's in the mail.)
